A mere 2% of the 400 respondents covered by the survey think Croatia's education system is good.
Rote learning was underlined by 64% of the respondents as the worst thing in the education system.
Half of those polled (54%) believe that schools do not encourage critical thinking and logical argumentation.
Also, every other respondent thinks some school subjects are unnecessary and outdated whereas other subjects which they consider crucial are not included in school programmes. They think school should offer more opportunities for practical school experience.
Over 60% of those polled insist that digital literacy, financial literacy and sex education should be introduced as compulsory subjects.
Some of the respondents suggest ethics, first aid or mental health lessons to be added to curricula.
As many as 54% say that religious education should be taught as an optional course in primary and secondary education, whereas information science should be a compulsory subject.
Two-thirds of those polled (66%) believe that nowadays it is more difficult for teachers to do their job than before.
