Survey: Uber supported by 86% of citizens

Author: Snježana Pezer

ZAGREB, Dec 3 (Hina) - A survey conducted by the Promocija Plus research group for Uber indicates that 86% of citizens support Uber and that in those cities where Uber operates, 97% of citizens have heard of it.

This is the first public survey about Uber and its services in Croatia which was conducted at the end of September on a sample of 1,000 respondents, who were not necessarily Uber clients, aged between 18 and 65 in five cities where Uber operates  (Zagreb, Split, Zadar, Sibenik and Dubrovnik).

"The results show a high percentage of satisfied customers, with 75% of respondents where Uber operates saying that they consider Uber to be a positive innovation on the market, while 40% said that prior to Uber they did not use standard taxi services. That is confirmation that Uber has contributed to changing the habits of movement through cities and has increased the transport market," Uber said.

The survey further showed that 76% of respondents preferred Uber to standard taxi companies, with about 80% saying that this was due to the lower price, while 50% cited its availability and accessibility. Also, 76% said that red tape should be reduced for those wishing to start their own business for passenger transport in private vehicles.

Interestingly, more than half the respondents said that if they were unemployed they would consider employment with Uber, Promocija Plus said. Nearly 85% consider Uber and similar services to be beneficial to tourism in Croatia.

Uber is an internet platform providing private passenger transport. It was introduced in Croatia two years ago, originally in Zagreb and later in Split, Zadar, Sibenik, Dubrovnik, Rijeka and Novalja. As of this past summer, Uber has been providing boat services in Split, Dubrovnik and Hvar.

About 3,000 drivers are currently driving for Uber.
