Labour and Pension System Minister Marko Pavic said that when it comes to unemployment, the current trends are favourable and the biggest problem for business people is lack of labour.
"The unemployment rate is record-low. The unemployment rate in the City of Zagreb is 5% and 10.6% on the national level. Employment is also going up, but we are also faced with labour shortage," Minister Pavic said.
He recalled that the government decided to use the active employment policy measures to activate domestic labour.
The minister underscored the importance of the European Social Fund. "This year (...) we've secured one and a half billion kuna for active employment measures."
Marija Halic of the Zagreb Employment Office said that a total of 25,488 unemployed persons registered with the Office found jobs in the first nine months of 2017. The unemployment rate in September 2017 was 5.8%, which is 1.9 percentage points less than in September 2016.
The 11th Job Fair is being held under the auspices of the City of Zagreb and Zagreb County.
