The event is being held under the auspices of the Croatian Parliament and President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, and is opening at 7pm on Friday with several exhibitions.
Visitors will be able to go chestnutting and attend various lectures and workshops. An archery tournament will be organised near the Old Town and visitors will be entertained by various pop and folk singers.
The festival will be accompanied by the Health Food Fair, with special emphasis on chestnut dishes and desserts.
A free train service will be operational between Zagreb and Hrvatska Kostajnica, about 90 kilometres southeast of the capital.
