Numerous statesmen congratulate Croatia on Statehood Day

ZAGREB, June 24 (Hina) - President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic has received notes of congratulation to all Croatian citizens on the occasion of Statehood Day, which Croatia observes on June 25, from numerous statesmen, including the heads of the US, China and Russia, her office said on Saturday.

US President Donald Trump said Croatia and the United States shared a quarter of a century of friendship and that he was looking forward to stronger partnership between the two countries. He said the US appreciated Croatia's many contributions to transatlantic and regional security and that Croatia, as a member of the European Union and NATO, had unique leadership potential in Southeast Europe.

Chinese President Xi Jinping said the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries was intensifying and that the partnership showed the increasing importance of developing bilateral relations. Xi said he wished to cooperate in the strengthening of the friendship and cooperation between the two countries and to continue to raise the level of China-Croatia relations to the benefit of both nations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said the development of constructive Russian-Croatian dialogue and mutually useful cooperation in various areas would fully suit the fundamental interests of the two countries and all of Europe.

Australian Governor-General Peter Cosgrove congratulated Croatia on Statehood Day as well as the 25 years of UN membership, saying Australia, like Croatia, firmly believed that contemporary challenges demanded broad global solutions, and expressed commitment to working with Croatia multilaterally and bilaterally.

Swiss President Doris Leuthard voiced confidence that the friendship and trust between the two countries would continue to deepen in the year ahead.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic voiced confidence that, by working together, the two countries would contribute to the advancement of all-round relations based on mutual acknowledgement and respect for good neighbourly relations and European values.

Romanian President Klaus Werner Iohannis said 2017 marked the 25th anniversary of Romanian-Croatian diplomatic relations and that he was pleased with the dynamic bilateral dialogue this year.

Italian President Sergio Mattarella underlined the deep ties linking Zagreb and Rome on the basis of excellent bilateral relations at all levels. They are reinforced by the important contribution of the respective ethnic minorities as a true bridge in the dialogue and unity between the two countries, he added.

Hungarian President Janos Ader said the Croatian-Hungarian partnership and friendship had an extraordinary historical tradition that was, in a number of aspects, unique in Central Europe.

Notes of congratulation on Statehood Day were also forwarded by Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki, Lebanese President Michel Aoun, Malawian President Arthur Peter Mutharika, King Philippe of Belgium, Gabonese President Ali Bongo Ondimba, Irish President Michael D. Higgins, Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid, Emperor Akihito of Japan, Cuban President Raul Castro, South Korean President Moon Jae-in, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
