Last year, there were 150 organ donors in Croatia (35 donors per 1 million inhabitants) and a total of 354 organ transplants (80 transplants per 1 million inhabitants).
A total of 191 people received new kidneys, 35 people got new hearts and seven people received new pancreases.
The president of the Croatian Donors' Network, Nikola Zgrablic, said that organ waiting lists in Croatia are getting shorter and shorter and that the waiting period in most cases is less than a year, while in Germany people are waiting for a kidney transplant between eight and ten years.
"We can be proud of the organisation and medical success and the fact that Croatia is at the very top of the list according to organ transplants," Health Minister Milan Kujundzic said, announcing assistance to neighbouring countries in the field of transplantation medicine.
