A combination of the cultural, culinary and tourism aspects, the museum is a new tourism product for Pula and Istria overall. The museum is located in an old factory as an example of industrial architecture.
Visitors can learn about the history and current aspects of the Istrian olive industry, from cultivation and harvesting to manufacturing and the production of quality olive oil, as well as learning about all its health advantages. Its history spans from the Roman era, via medieval times and to the present, presenting several olive sorts and Istria's olive roads.
The project was made possible with the cooperation of several partners, including the City of Pula and its tourism board, and the investment is valued at about HRK 2 million.
Noting that the museum attracted the interest of reporters from Italy and Slovenia, the director of the Istrian Tourism Board, Denis Ivosevic said that the museum and Istria's olive industry would be promoted on foreign markets.
He added that Istria currently has 1.5 million olive trees and seven olive roads with 160 olive oil producers. Ivosevic underscored that Istria's extra virgin olive oil has won world awards two years in a row.
