Women owners or co-owners of 30% of businesses in Croatia

Author: Marija Šestan

ZAGREB, March 8 (Hina) - Some 30% of private companies in Croatia are owned or co-owned by women and this is an improvement compared to the situation 10 years ago when women's business ownership ranged between 7% and 10%, according to figures presented at the Congress of Southeast European Women Entrepreneurs, held in Zagreb on Wednesday.

This is an indicator that we are on the right track and I hope that we will set an example not only to Southeast Europe but the entire Europe too, said Sanela Dropulic, the CEO of the Virtual Women's Entrepreneurship Centre that organised this annual event.

She, however, warned about the issue of women receiving lower pay than men.

The event brought together 650 business women and Dropulic voiced hope that the event would demonstrate the power of women on the real market.

Mayor Milan Bandic of the City of Zagreb, which helped organise the event, said a half of his aides in the city council and the city administration were women.
