In its press release issued on Tuesday, the SSSH calls for bringing down glass walls and ceilings that segregate women and men in various professions and demands full gender equality on the labour market, unquestionable reproductive and sexual rights and quality and accessible public services.
The World Economic Forum (WEF) recently warned that, due to the slowing down of efforts to reduce the pay gap between men and women, economic equality will not be reached for another 170 years. Last year that period was "only" 118 years.
In its 2015 report the office of the Ombudswoman for Gender Equality reported on a gap of 10.2% and that men in Croatia on average earned about HRK 10,400 gross more than women annually, SSSH said.
Lower wages today entail lower pensions tomorrow. Narrowing the gender gap could also narrow the gap in pensions that condemn women to retirement in poverty.
SSSH demands better jobs that will guarantee a sustainable system of social welfare.
SSSH calls on all members, workers (male and female) to join a protest rally organised by the SSSH Women's Section, union groups and other union federation, activists in the Women's Network of Croatia and Roda to be held on Wednesday, March 8 at midday in the main square in Zagreb.
