The Dugo Selo - Krizevci railway is valued at HRK 1.5 billion and 85% of the project is financed with EU funds. The line is 38.2 kilometres long and should be in full use by February 2020. Currently between 250 and 300 workers are involved, the project's leader Tihomir Lazeta said.
The construction work began in July and is being conducted by a domestic consortium consisting of DIV, Dalekovod and Zagreb-Montaza under the supervision of SGS Adriatica and Investinzenjering.
The work includes the reconstruction of six bridges and construction of seven new ones, as well as the construction of 11 overpasses, one underpass and a 20 kilometre long noise barrier.
Trains will be able to run at 160 kilometres per hour and will cut travel time by 30% (10 minutes).
The 12.2 kilometre Gradec - Sv. Ivan Zabno line will cost HRK 203.4 million and 85% of this will be covered from EU funds.
This is the first investment in a new railway line in 50 years and the work is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.
The work on this line is being conducted by a Spanish-German consortium of Comsa and Wiebe.
