HLK president Trpimir Goluza called on the government to take measures to encourage doctors to stay in Croatia.
"The situation is alarming. Shrinking personnel in the health care system poses a threat to the security and prosperity of the Croatian state," Goluza said at a news conference, urging the government to immediately address the issue.
"Annually some 150 doctors leave Croatia. Our ship is sinking. It is high time that we reversed this trend with appropriate measures," Goluza said,
The Chamber is proposing solutions such as permanent tenders for internship, unlike now when doctors who have finished medical school wait for months to get a chance for a job.
Goluza proposed better work schedules and amending the concept of residency in the hospital system.
