Owing to a noble decision of 169 people to donate organs after death, last year Croatian doctors transplanted 399 organs to patients on organ transplant waiting lists. A total of 213 kidney, 141 livers, 37 hearts and 8 pancreases were transplanted last year.
The most successful donor hospitals in Croatia last year were KBC Rijeka with 31 organ donors, KBC Split with 23 and OB Varazdin with 18 organ donors.
According to the Health Ministry, because of the high public awareness of the importance of organ donation, the number of donors in Croatia last year rose by 13% and the number of transplants went up 10% from 2014.
