The festival will be opened by an event featuring Italian writer, intellectual and translator Claudio Magris in the Kino Europa cinema theatre in Zagreb on Sunday. His latest novel "Non luogo a procedere" ("To Terminate Prosecution"), translated into Croatian, will be promoted in Zagreb.
Italian guests will also include Antonio Pennacchi, Giorgio Pressburger, Paolo Cognetti, Ugo Volli and comics artist Michele Rech, better known under his pseudonym Zerocalcare.
The festival will also feature French writers Muriel Barbery and Laurence Plazenet. and cartoonist Christian Durieux, German writer Adriana Altaras, Austrian Karl-Markus Gauss, Hungarians Peter Gardos and Viktor Horvath, as well as guests from Slovenia, Serbia, Belgium, Finland, Bulgaria, Ireland, Russia, Israel and the Czech Republic.
As part of the programme "Sharing the Wor(l)d", writers in residence will be Vesna Lemaic from Slovenia and Rob Doyle from Ireland.
The Fraktura publishing company started organising this type of festival in 2013. This year, the festival also is taking place in Split where six writers will present their works.
