The silver went to Melina Robert-Michon of France (66.73 m) and the bronze to Denia Caballero of Cuba (65.34 m).
Perkovic is the second athlete in history who defended the Olympic gold in the women's discus throw. The first was Evelin Jahl of Germany, who first won the medal in Montreal in 1976 and then four years later in Moscow. This year Perkovic won the gold at the European Championship in Amsterdam as well as the Diamond League title.
Perkovic's latest medal is the fourth for Croatia at this year's Olympics (three golds and one silver).
