The foreign trade deficit in said period was HRK 23.8 billion, HRK 1.3 billion higher than in the first five months of 2015. The export-import ratio was 60%.
Expressed in euros, exports in the first five months in 2016 amounted to 4.7 billion, up 5.3% on the year, while imports totalled 7.8 billion (+5.7%). The foreign trade deficit amounted to EUR 3.1 billion.
The European Union remained the most important market for Croatian products, with exports reaching HRK 24.3 billion (+5.8%), while imports went up 6.4% to HRK 47.5 billion.
Exports to Central European Free Trade Agreement countries reached HRK 5.7 billion (-4.3%), while imports jumped 19.7% to HRK 3.4 billion.
Germany, Italy and Slovenia remained Croatia's main trade partners. Commodity exports to Germany in the first five months of 2016 amounted to HRK 4.5 billion (+13.6%), while imports stood at HRK 9.7 billion (+9.6%). Exports to Italy reached nearly HRK 5 billion (+8.6%), while imports were HRK 7.9 billion (+0.7%). Exports to Slovenia totalled HRK 4.5 billion (+6.5%) and imports to HRK 6.5 billion (+9.5%).
