Croatian seaports record increases in passenger and goods traffic

ZAGREB, July 19 (Hina) - Croatian seaports recorded increases in the number of passengers and the volume of goods turnover in May 2016, the latest figures from the National Bureau of Statistics (DZS) show.

A total of 27,820 ships docked in Croatian seaports in May 2016, an increase of 7.3% over May 2015, while the number of passengers rose by 11.7% to 2.5 million. The number of domestic passengers increased by 13.5%, while that of foreign passengers fell by 7.1%.

The port of Split recorded the largest number of passengers in May -- 362,200, up 2.5% on the year. It was followed by the ports of Dubrovnik and Zadar with 230,000 and 186,000 passengers respectively, up 15.1% and 26.3% on the year.

The volume of goods handled by the seaports in May 2016, compared with May 2015, increased by 24.8% to 1.9 million tonnes as a result of a 126.7% increase in international unloading. Increases in goods turnover were recorded in the ports of Omisalj, Bakar and Ploce, of 390%, 17.5% and 1.3% respectively.
