Lovran clinic conducts advanced wrist arthroscopy

Author: Snježana Pezer

ZAGREB, March 18 (Hina) - The Orthopaedic Clinic in Lovran on Thursday conducted artificial wrist joint replacement surgery, the first procedure of its kind ever conducted in Croatia.

After the two-hour operation, surgeon Zdravko Jotanovic explained that the 70-year old patient would be able to move his wrist as of tomorrow already and would then immediately begin with physical therapy. The surgeon added that there were several patients on a waiting list to have damaged wrists repaired with this method of advanced wrist arthroscopy.

The operation is to become a regular procedure in the Lovran clinic placing it amongst the few centres in Europe that conduct highly differential and sub-specialised surgical procedures, the clinic reported.

It is estimated that initially five to ten procedures will be conducted a year and that number will grow with time.

The new method enables patients a shorter post-operative recovery period and improved quality of life and ability to conduct every day activities.
