Author: Roberta Mlinarić
ZAGREB, Feb 19 (Hina) - The number of organ donors in Croatia in 2015 grew by 13% from 2014 and the number of organ transplants rose by 10%, with the donor rate being 39 donors per one million inhabitants, which makes Croatia, along with Spain, the leading country in the world in terms of organ donation, the Health Ministry said on Friday.
In 2015, there were 213 kidney transplants, 141 liver transplants, 37 heart transplants and 8 pancreas transplants, show the latest results of the national transplant programme.

The most successful organ donor hospitals were the Rijeka University Hospital, with 31 organ donors, the Split University Hospital, with 23 organ donors, and the Varazdin General Hospital, with 18 organ donors.

Transplants were successfully implemented in five licenced transplant centres - Zagreb's university hospital "Merkur" (188 transplants), the Zagreb University Hospital (147), the Rijeka University Hospital (39), Zagreb's university hospital "Dubrava" (14), and the Osijek University Hospital (12).

Owing to experienced multidisciplinary transplant teams, the quality of transplants is at the level of the best EU centres.
