The exhibition was opened by Slovenian Charge d'Affaires Marko Rakovec, who said that culture is the essence of every nation and the basis of its identity and that it is only natural that cultural cooperation between Croatians and Slovenians should be the basis of all other forms of cooperation.
The head of the Slovenian Home cultural association in Karlovac, Marina Delac-Tepsic, said that the association was celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. "Our aim is to preserve our identity, culture and language because it is mainly through associations like this that Slovenians living outside Slovenia are connected with their mother country," she said.
Preseren Day is a Slovenian cultural and national holiday marked on February 8, the day of the death of Slovenian national poet France Preseren in 1849. In Croatia, this day will also be marked in Rijeka, Pula and Varazdin and the main celebration will be held in Zagreb on Thursday.
