The purpose of this cultural event, when admission to all museums and art galleries is free, is to bring the arts closer to a wider audience. The first such event was organised in Croatia in 2005 and every year it attracts an increasing number of visitors.
The focus of this year's event will be on sacral art, and the public will have a rare opportunity to see some of the church art collections that are otherwise not on public display.
Last year the Long Night of Museums was organised at 250 locations in 110 towns across the country and visitors had a chance to see 290 exhibitions. Despite the rain, snow and low temperatures, the event attracted 250,000 people.
