Nearly 2 mln theatre goers in Croatia in 2014-2015 season

ZAGREB, Jan 10 (Hina) - During the 2014-2015 season, Croatian theatres performed over 11,000 plays and events, attracting nearly two million theatre goers, according to figures provided by the national statistical office (DZS).
In the last season, a total of 184 theatres and troupes were active in the country, and of them 98 were professional.

There were 29 professional theatres for children, and of them eight were puppet theatres.

As many as 57 amateur dramatics societies were registered in Croatia in the 2014-15 season.

According to the statistical figures 1,928,015 visitors were in attendance at a total of 11,340 plays and events .

Nearly two thirds, that is 62.5% of the reportoire, were works by Croatian authors.

Professional companies pefromed 60 plays on average in the season, and the median number of visitors was 199 per performance.

Croatian theatres gave 334 plays abroad, in 33 countries, attracting over 79,000 theatre-goers.

Most of those plays were performed in Bosnia and Herzegovina (49) and in Serbia (45) as well as in Slovenia (36). Croatian theatre groups also performed outside Europe, in Israel, the USA, and China.

Comedies attracted more visitors than dramas, and ballet performances were more attractive than operas, according to statistical data.

Children's plays were seen by 510,000 people.
