Author: Marija Šestan

ZAGREB, Dec 21 (Hina) - Bookings for the Christmas and New Year season are higher this year both for destinations along the Croatian Adriatic coast and in continental parts of the country compared to last year, and will further improve the results of the tourism sector in 2015, a year in which Croatia will register a record EUR 8 billion euros in revenues from foreign guests, Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin said in Zagreb on Monday.

Booking arrangements have risen by 10-20% for the Christmas and New Year period in the Adriatic area, in the capital of Zagreb and in continental Croatia, and we believe that we will have an 8% rise in overnight stays for the entire 2015, Lorencin told the press during the Open Door Day of the Institute for International Relations.

Regarding the Advent packages, Zagreb took the lead and the number of tourists visiting the city in the first three weeks of December increased by 20%, Lorencin said.

Istria has reported a 16% increase in bookings for this festive season, while Dubrovnik and Split have registered an increase of 10%, the minister added.

Boasting of a successful tourist season in 2015, Lorencin said that for the first time foreign tourist consumption was expected to generate more than 8 billion euros this year, plus EUR 1.5 billion from domestic tourist consumption.

Financial results from tourism in 2015 are likely to come close to EUR 10 billion, he said, recalling that when he took office in 2012, revenues from foreign tourists were lower by 1.15 billion euros than in 2015.
