Church and Caritas Croatia to help refugees

Author: Snježana Pezer
ZAGREB, Sept 9 (Hina) - The Catholic Church in Croatia is helping refugees through its Caritas charity, the president of the Croatian Conference of Bishops (HBK), Zadar Archbishop Zelimir Puljic, said on Wednesday and together with representatives of other religious communities in the country appealed to the public to accept refugees.
The appeal asks that efforts be made to help those in need and to make available accommodation, food, medical care and psycho-social assistance to our brothers and sisters in need, Caritas Croatia deputy director Suzana Borko told Hina.

She recalled that Caritas had sent financial assistance from its emergency relief fund to the Caritas organisations in Macedonia and Serbia. She called on the public to support Caritas' project with donations to help relieve the uncertainty, anxiety and scarcity refugees compelled to leave their homes are faced with.

More information on how to donate funds is available at www.caritas.hr.

Pope Francis on Sunday called on religious communities, parishes, monasteries and convents around Europe to accept one refugee family, announcing that two Vatican parishes would take in one family each in the next few days.
