Health Minister Sinisa Varga commented that new technology meant faster and better treatment for patients and that it would reduce waiting lists. The new CT can scan the entire body in 5 seconds. Until now that took half an hour or an hour to do. That means less time exposed to radiation and greater safety for patients, he said.
The hospital's administrator, Davor Stimac, underscored that the wait for a CT scan was 60 days and now it has been reduced to less than a month.
The apparatus is valued at HRK 8.5 million and was bought entirely from state budget funds.
Minister Varga announced the commencement of construction of a new hospital complex in the Rijeka neighbourhood of Susak and that the government had approved collateral for a loan for the construction.
The complex will cover an area of 240,000 square metres and will accommodate a children's hospital, a gynaecological and maternity ward, a thermal power block and multi-level parking lot.
