Kircek plans to produce 20,000 counter tops for Ikea that will come in two sizes and this factory will be the second Croatian supplier for Ikea, after the Virovitica-based Tvin furniture company.
Ikea Croatia CEO Dragan Skalausevic said that he was pleased that Ikea has found a new partner in Croatia. "Just like we announced when opening our store in Zagreb that this would provide an opportunity for suppliers from Croatia and the entire region. Se are pleased that in addition to the Virovitica Tvin, we have found yet another successful partner in Croatia," he said.
The Kircek company, Skalausevic said, has a "tradition, and is competitive and specialised in the production of solid wood panels and has satisfied all Ikea IWAY standards. They are open to expanding production in the future and to obtain an FSC certificate which guarantees that they use timber from forests that are managed according to strict ecological, social and economic standards."
Kircek sales director Silvio Gotic said that he was pleased that the company's products would be exported throughout Europe through Ikea's chain of stores.
"This cooperation is confirmation that our investment has paid off," Gotic said.
Ikea will continue to seek domestic suppliers, not just in the wood industry but for a much wider range of products.
