Croatia's largest hotel companies operate in the area, generating more than 10 million tourist bed-nights annually, and they are the biggest consumers of electricity in Istria County, the opening ceremony was told.
The ceremony was attended by Economy Minister Ivan Vrdoljak, who said that electricity consumption in the area had doubled over the past 25 years.
A total of 112.3 million kuna (15 million euros) was invested in the project.
The regional power company Elektroistra plans to switch from the 10 kV to 20 kV grid over the next five years to ensure a stable electricity supply in the long term for present and future consumers in Istria.
