Croatia records highest negative population growth since 2003

ZAGREB, June 30 (Hina) - According to the national statistical bureau, Croatia's population growth recorded negative trends in 2014 as the annual birthrate was lower than the mortality rate by 11,273 persons. This is also the highest negative trend in population growth since 2003.

According to these figures, a total of 39,566 people were born and 50,839 people died in Croatia in 2014.

The last time Croatia recorded a positive rate in population growth was in 1997.

In 2014, Croatia also recorded a negative trend in marriage and divorce ratio with 19,501 marriages and 6,570 divorces. That same year, approximately 21,000 Croatians moved abroad, while 10,000 foreign citizens moved to Croatia. Croatia's population at the end of 2014 was estimated at 4,225,000.
