The Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) in Croatia was 121.8 points in June, up 0.2 points from May. This was the highest level of the indicator since Croatia joined the EU and the eighth consecutive month ESI had improved.
Economic sentiment improved the most in the services sector, with the relevant indicator going up 0.9 points to 12.1 points. The consumer indicator improved by 0.5 points to -21.2 points. The indicators for construction, retail trade and industries deteriorated, going down by 1.2, 0.7 and 0.2 points respectively. The indicator for the construction sector slid to -26.1 points, the one for retail trade dropped to 3.6 points and the one for the industrial sector dropped to 4.8 points.
The Economic Sentiment Indicator for the whole of the EU deteriorated, going down 0.9 points to 105.5 points.
Economic sentiment improved in construction and among consumers, with the relevant indicators growing by 1.5 and 0.7 points to -18.5 and -3.3 points respectively. It deteriorated in retail trade, the services sector and industries.
In the euro area, ESI deteriorated slightly in relation to May, going down by 0.3 points to 103.5 points. The indicator improved only in construction, going up by 0.8 points to -24.2 points, while in all the other sectors it remained unchanged or deteriorated.
A separate EC survey on the business climate in the euro area also showed downward trends in June, with the Business Climate Indicator (BCI) having been halved to 0.14 points.
