On their way to Western Europe, migrants use a route from Syria via Turkey, Greece, Macedonia, Serbia and Hungary to reach Austria and Germany, so it is necessary to seek a solution on the European level, Stefanovic told the commercial television channel TV Pink.
Sometimes as many as 800 people enter Serbia on a daily basis and say they will apply for asylum, he said, adding that most migrants see Serbia as a transit country.
Earlier, responding to questions from lawmakers in the National Assembly, Stefanovic said that "all figures indicate that a huge number of people are yet to come" and that a crisis coordination committee, including the ministers of welfare and health, had been set up to tackle the situation. He underlined that there were not enough facilities to accommodate the migrants.
