"On the occasion of June 25, the Day of the Seafarer, as Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure I extend to all sailors, now and in the future who choose this career and their families, my congratulations and words of encouragement," Hajdas Doncic said.
He added that motivating young people to choose maritime careers, which is the message of this year's event, is in fact in line with the government's strategic objectives.
"Through its policies and strategic documents, the government has recognised the importance of developing and promoting Croatia as an international centre of excellence for the education of sailors, along with continual advancement of the education system and training of sailors. We have adopted a strategy of maritime development and integrated policies for the period 2014-2020 which, amongst else, defines the direction to develop maritime affairs as one of the most important economic branches in Croatia. We wish to secure the highest living and working standards for sailors, which will surely motivate young people to choose that as their career," Minister Hajdas Doncic said.
He recalled that one of the major problems in training was practical work on ships which would improve chances for career development. In December last year, the government adopted a programme to subsidise practical training on international and national shipping lines, he said.
The ministry today is launching a useful web site - e-Pomorac (https://epomorac.pomorstvo.hr/), which will provide sailors with useful information in one place, such as authorised medical institutions in Croatia, various courses available in maritime affairs, and will serve as a platform to publish important notices, the minister said in his message.
