"I told him that I wanted to redefine the relationship with Great Britain, for us to be much more modern, to be partners in dealing with burning issues in the European Union and Southeast Europe. We talked about the security situation in Southeast Europe, but also about the migration issue and what we can do together so that we strengthen both our relations and the EU," Grabar-Kitarovic told reporters.
She met with Cameron on the fringes of the GLOBSEC 2015 security forum. In the evening, she was scheduled to speak at a panel on the Balkans also to be attended by Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, and former European enlargement commissioner Stefan Fuele.
Grabar-Kitarovic also met with Slovak President Andrej Kiska. "Our wish is to develop tighter Croatia-Slovakia ties. Slovakia can be an example to us, not only of how to come out of the economic crisis, but to really find the right development path. Their current economic growth is 3-4 percent, the average salary is 1,000 euros, and let's recall where we both were 25 or 30 years ago."
She also spoke of Macedonia. "I'm concerned about the situation in Macedonia and the fact that the country is somehow on the margins. The situation with Macedonia is relatively uncertain. We are talking about the name issue, about solving the bilateral dispute between Macedonia and Greece, but we're also talking about the fact that Macedonia must really invest effort in reforms so that it strengthens the judiciary, combats corruption, monitors security services. We are willing to share our experience, but we also wish to point out to Macedonia in a friendly manner the need to intensify reforms."
Grabar-Kitarovic also talked about Montenegro. "I push for Montenegro getting the invitation to join NATO as soon as possible, but no decision has been made yet. I hope it will receive it by the end of the year."
She said she talked about her Adriatic-Baltic initiative with Kiska and Cameron. "I will also talk with the prime ministers of the Visegrad Group and use every opportunity, including the United Nations General Assembly this autumn, to bring together the presidents or prime ministers from this region, between the Baltic and the Adriatic Sea, and talk with them about concrete matters of political relations, security as well as economic connections, the transport infrastructure and energy independence."
