ZAGREB, March 31 (Hina) - A survey conducted by the on-line job search portal MojPosao shows that 36% of respondents would agree to declare bankruptcy if left with enough money for a normal living, while 9% of respondents want to save themselves from debt bondage at any cost.

The Consumer Bankruptcy Act, popularly called the personal bankruptcy law, is to go into force in July, and the survey, covering more than 400 respondents, investigated if citizens would be willing to let someone else manage their property so that their debts are settled.

The survey shows that 36% of the people interviewed would declare bankruptcy on the condition they were left with enough money for a decent living, while 9% would want to save themselves from debt bondage at any cost.

Almost one-third or 32% of the respondents believe that personal bankruptcy is not a good instrument and that "a decent income is the only way to overcome any financial trouble", just as "stimulating production to create new jobs and encourage employment" is.

"Personally I manage my finances very well, but I am not to blame for not having a job. My situation is not due to the lack of competence, but the lack of possibilities, which is a very important difference," said one of the respondents.

Almost one-fourth of the respondents, or 23%, believe they can deal with their debts on their own.

"People do not go bankrupt because they are stupid but because there is no money," a respondent said, while another one said he was careful about how much he spent so as not to fall into debt.
