Among the top ten rising destinations this year, Croatia came before Portugal, Turkey, France, Spain, Austria, the Maldives, Thailand, Morocco, and Montenegro.
Because of its rise in popularity worldwide, Fodor's has decided to publish a guide on Croatia, describing it in its publications as unique in the Mediterranean, with clean waters and beaches, a coastline and islands that are a haven for visitors, and an excellent wine offer.
Fodor's also highlights the rich history of the coastal region of Dalmatia, saying it was part of the Roman Empire and that "important ruins can be found throughout, especially in Split."
It also recommends sailing. "With an indented coastline abounding in natural harbors, countless islands, emerald-blue seas, and unspoiled nature, Croatia is a sailor's dream destination."
Fodor's ranks rising destinations based on frequency of inquiries and searches on its website, which has millions of visitors each month, with a record 20-million-plus visits in one month last year.
