Author: half
ZAGREB, Oct 25 (Hina) - Georgian director Levan Koguashvili's "Blind Dates" is the winner of this year's Zagreb Film Festival, enchanting the jury "because of its simplicity, originality, reliance on an excellent script and touching acting and because of the humanity of all characters," reporters were told on Saturday.

This romantic comedy about a 40-year-old teacher won the Zlatna Kolica award for best feature and EUR 4,000.

Speaking to Hina, lead actor Andro Sakvarelidze said he was glad to have been able to see the warm audience response to the film which has already been shown at festivals in Toronto, Tokyo and Abu Dhabi.

Special awards went to "Difret", an Ethiopian film based on true events and directed by Zeresenay Berhane Mehari, awarded also in Sundance and Berlin, about a 14-year-old girl who kills her abductor; and to "Of Horses and Men", an Icelandic film directed by Benedikt Erlingsson.

The best short film award went to the Romanian film "Kowalski", directed by Andrei Cretulescu.

The Slovenian film "Passenger Karpo", directed by Matjaz Ivanisin, won the best documentary award.

These and other winners will be presented with their awards tonight at the Europa cinema.

ZFF director Boris T. Matic said he was satisfied with this year's edition and that attendance was higher than last year.
