Over 3 million readers of free e-books

ZAGREB, 12 Jan (Hina) - In December 2024, the number of readers of free e-books surpassed three million, and in September, the millionth reader of domestic prose titles was recorded, Krešimir Pintarić, manager of the Free Electronic Books online project, has said.

The Society for the Promotion of Literature in New Media published 31 new titles as part of the project in 2024, bringing the total number of available titles on the project's website to 346 out of 384 published.

According to data from the Awstats service, the project's website last year recorded 219,842 users, who read 197,100 e-books online and downloaded an additional 82,342 to their devices. This means that users of the project read and/or downloaded 279,442 e-books in 2024.

On average, 600 users read 539 e-books online daily and downloaded 226 free e-books. Residents of Zagreb made up the largest group of users, accounting for 37%, or more than 80,000 readers.

Compared to 2023, the number of e-books read increased by 44%, downloads grew by 41%, and overall readership rose by 43%.

The 384 titles published so far have been read an average of 7,800 times each. Among them are 153 domestic prose titles, including 68 novels - 66 for adults and two for adolescents. Of these 153 titles, all except one were read more than 1,000 times, 31 titles amassed over 10,000 readers, and on average, they were read 6,840 times.
