It was proclaimed by the Ministry of Culture and Media, and Samoborski Fašnik will be entered into Croatia’s Register of Cultural Goods on the List of Protected Cultural Heritage.
Samoborski Fašnik is a strong expression of the identity of Samobor and its surroundings, continuously held since 1827, with minor interruptions during certain historical events.
It originated under the strong influence of Central European traditions, incorporating carnival elements from various European cities while developing its own specific features under the influence of neighbouring settlements.
“It is up to all of us to preserve and nurture the customs and traditions of Samoborski Fašnik, which will celebrate its 199th edition from 21 February to 4 March 2025,” the town said.
