The opening ceremony was held in the Rijeka City Library, and the organisers said that over 2,000 different programmes and events will be prepared in the next 30 days across Croatia to mark this year's Book Month.
Emphasis will be placed on the heritage of Croatian fairy tale writer Ivana Brlić Mažuranić, with Croatia marking the 150th anniversary of her birth this year.
Addressing the ceremony, Culture Minster Nina Obuljen Koržinek said that during this government's terms, 23 libraries have been renovated or constructed.
