Serb Cultural Centre in Zagreb opens its renovated offices

Author: Marija Šestan

ZAGREB, 11 Oct (Hina) - The Serb community in Zagreb on Thursday evening formally opened the revamped offices of the Serb Cultural Centre in downtown Zagreb.

The premises of the Serb Cultural Centre in Preradovićeva Street were renovated, and the Serb cultural society "Prosvjeta" returned to those offices, which it owns, after 30 years. The return was the result of cooperation between the Serb ethnic minority and the Croatian government.

The renovation and opening of the Serb Cultural Centre is the result of joint efforts the Serb minority and our government have invested in the construction of a modern and well-equipped space which is open to all people who want to enjoy good cultural events, regardless of their ethnic, political and other orientation, Culture and Media Minister Nina Obuljen-Koržinek said.

She added that the Croatian government recognises, appreciates and is proud of its ethnic pluralism and cultural diversity.

"We are an open community and we want to continue being open," Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS) leader Milorad Pupovac said, adding that the centre is open to everybody in the country.

"The Croat community in Serbia and the Serb community in Croatia are indigenous ethnic communities and must feel at home in their countries, said Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić, who attended the opening ceremony.
