The goal of the race, in which more than 120 people participated, is to support those with a criminal past in their reintegration into society, to encourage a more inclusive society, to open a discussion about the stereotypes and prejudices faced by those with a criminal past, to raise awareness of the importance of rehabilitation and to acquaint the public with the importance of performing tasks in the prison system, the organisers said.
Habijan expressed his belief that this race would become a tradition.
"The goal is to remove prejudices and labels. These are all people who have returned to our society and to their families or will return. Let's show them that we really care about all citizens and that there is no prejudice, even if only in a symbolic way," he said.
In addition to him and prisoners, taking part in the race were also judicial police officers, probation officers, court officials, Ministry officials, the deputy Norwegian ambassador, Lika-Senj Prefect Ernest Petry and others.
A workshop was organised for children of prisoners.
Races were also held in the penitentiaries in Lepoglava and Glina, with prisoners and officials participating.
