Organised in partnership with the Canon company, the exhibition shows the works of photographers including South African photojournalist Brent Stirton, Brazilian photojournalist Sebastião Salgado, Nigerian photojournalist Yagazie Emezi, Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Muhammed Muheisen, Slovenian photographer Sam Vidic and others, the museum announced.
"One of the more important features of the Museum's activities is work on adapting and enabling access to works of art to visually impaired people. The Typhlological Museum has become a referral centre for adaptation that strongly encourages and supports the concept of adaptation at other museums and if necessary, beyond," Typhlological Museum Director Nina Sivec said.
She added that this way visually impaired people are assisted to participate equally in the cultural life of the community.
The photographs in the exhibition are embossed prints, verbally described, have Braille legends and convey their content to the blind and visually impaired. Sighted visitors, using simulation glasses, will be able to experience the world through the eyes of visually impaired people, so this exhibition is an inclusive attempt to provide a different experience to both.
Magda Karavanić from the Typhlological Museum curated the exhibition, which was made possible through the partnership with Canon, the Croatian Association of the Blind, the Typhlological Museum and the Zagreb City Museum.
The exhibition is open from 5-13 September.
