The Ukrainian Post initiated the exhibition of postage stamps through which 15 countries and their national postal services have expressed support and solidarity with Ukraine, which is under attack. Croatia joined in April 2022 with a postage stamp that reads "For Peace in Ukraine."
"As Ukraine strongly supported Croatia in its fight for independence and sovereignty, Croatia best understands Ukraine's situation, and we strongly support them," Grlić Radman said at the exhibition at the National and University Library.
He added that the Croatian postage stamp was conceived as an additional symbol of friendship between the two countries, as well as "strong mutual support for comprehensive efforts to establish peace in Ukraine, the return of its displaced citizens, and the normalisation of life on Ukrainian territory."
The CEO of Croatian Post, Ivan Čulo, said the company recognised the need to show solidarity with Ukrainian Post and people because 30 years ago, Croatia was in a similar situation during the war.
"We fully understand the role of Ukrainian Post in the current conflict on Ukrainian territory and how important the logistical connection between Ukrainian cities, towns, and all residents is. We went through that 33, 34 years ago, and our role at that time was irreplaceable... where we were practically the first to arrive in liberated areas and establish connections with the rest of the world and the state," he said.
Ukrainian Ambassador Vasyl Kyrylych called this form of support art. "I thank you for the strong support for Ukraine... I thank all the friendly countries that support Ukraine and Ukrainians, who are fighting for freedom and democracy. You have gone through this, you know what the wound and pain of defending a country are."
