26th Špancirfest to take place from 23 August to 1 September

Author: Lana Lončarić

ZAGREB, 30 June (Hina) - This year's 26th Špancirfest street festival will take place in the northwestern city of Varaždin from 23 August to 1 September, featuring over 500 programmes combining music, street performances, arts, creativity and gastronomy, it was announced earlier this week.

Presenting the programme, the director of the Varaždin Tourist Board, Jelena Toth, said that the most popular and largest street festival in Croatia will revive the historical heart of Varaždin with a wealth of content and events for all generations and create a unique atmosphere that makes it recognisable and sets it apart from the rest.

Croatian Eurovision contestant Baby Lasagna will be among the many musicians performing at the festival.

The street programme will include about 20 performers from countries such as France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Hungary, Belgium, Argentina and Chile.

Varaždin Mayor Neven Bosilj said that everyone wants to copy Špancirfest, but that is impossible because no other city has a stage such as the centre of Varaždin.

"We have a historic baroque centre spanning 35 hectares and we have reached the point where we have 28 festivals in one festival. Each zone is actually a festival," the mayor said.
