Sandra Elkasević, who was also the Olympic champion in 2012 and 2016 and the world champion in 2013 and 2017, won the first gold in the European championships in Barcelona in 2010 and since then she defended the European title in the women's discus-throw for the consecutive sixth time: in Helsinki, Zurich, Amsterdam, Berlin and Munich and now in Rome.
Jorinde van Klinken of the Netherlands won the silver (65.99m) and Portuguese Liliana Ca (64.53m) grabbed the bronze in this event in Rome on Saturday.
Another Croatian athlete in this event -- Marija Tolj -- finished the ninth with a 62.41-metre throw.

Croatian Filip Mihaljević, who won the gold in the previous European championships in Munich, did not manage to defend the title, however, he bagged the silver with a throw of 21.10 metres.
In Rome, Italian Leonardo Fabbri became the European champion with a 22.45m throw. Polish Michal Haratyk won the bronze (20.94 m).
