The cardinal called for generous love, and expression of solidarity of the Church in Zagreb with all those who are affected and who are experiencing difficult times of suffering and destruction. Bozanić also called for "prayer for the dead and wounded, and sympathy with all those who are suffering."
The Zagreb Archdiocese underscored that "all parish priests, parish administrators and rectors, as well as the faithful themselves, are urged to show generosity during Lent to help their brothers and sisters in need."
Each parish is free to determine its own way of collecting Lenten aid for the victims of the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
On 6 February 2023, a 7.8 earthquake and numerous aftershocks hit southern and central Turkey and northern and western Syria. This natural disaster was one of the deadliest and most powerful earthquakes in that part of the world, and it left behind tens of thousands of dead and wounded people, as well as enormous damage.
