ZAGREB, 5 Dec (Hina) - The European Network of Film Commissions (EUFCN) i has announced five finalists for the best filming location, including Stari Grad on the southern Croatian island of Hvar, where "The Summer I Learned to Fly" was filmed.

In addition to Stari Grad, this year's finalists are Brissago Islands for "Dawn Chorus" (Switzerland), Chiliadou Beach for "Triangle of Sorrow" (Greece), Portsoy for the sixth season of the series "Peaky Blinders" (Scotland) and Schlosshotel Kronberg for "Spencer" (Germany ), the Croatian Audio and Visual Centre (HAVC) reported on Monday.

"The Summer I Learned to Fly" was filmed on Hvar in September and October 2020 as part of the Filming in Croatia incentive program. Since February this year, 250,000 people have seen it in cinemas, including 34,000 in Croatia.

Ankica Jurić Tilić, the Croatian co-producer of the film, said that this beautiful warm story reached the hearts of many, and Stari Grad, the island of Hvar and its people had a significant contribution to it.

"EUFCN (The European Network of Film Commissions)  wants to focus on places where magic happens, drawing attention to the process and challenges behind site selection, and celebrating the work of all those involved in transforming places that tell stories," said network co-presidents Mikael Svensson and Pavlina Zipkova.

In the first phase of the competition, EUFCN members had the opportunity to propose one of the locations for a film or TV series shot in their country and they were shown between 11 September 2021 and 3 October 2022.

The jury for awarding the award evaluated all the locations submitted, paying particular attention to the significant role these locations play in the story, and its innovative use as part of the audiovisual work.

This is the fifth edition of the annual Best Location Award, which is awarded to European locations in the film and TV industry.

The winner is decided by the audience who can vote at https://eufcn.com/location-award-2022/. All voters are entered into a raffle, and one lucky winner will win a trip to the winning location.

Voting lasts until January 31, and the award will be presented to the winner in February 2023 at the European Film Fair - EFM 2023 in Berlin.
