The value of the project is HRK 2.3 million (€307,000), the bulk of which was donated by the United States, while the Croatian government covered the costs of project supervision and Value Added Tax.
The US government has donated funds for three hospital helipads in Croatia -- in Zagreb, Karlovac and Slavonski Brod.
Tomislav Dulibić, state secretary at the Ministry of Health, announced that the whole country would be covered by helicopter emergency medical services by the end of next year and that this was the government's priority.
The helipads will help provide medical services 24 hours a day and reach half the Croatian population within an hour, said Mark Fleming, chargé d'affaires at the US Embassy. He added that the helipad in Karlovac would also be used during joint military exercises at the nearby Slunj army training ground.
