Swiss city Schaffhausen's plaque unveiled in Varaždin's main square

Author: Hari Alfeo

ZAGREB, 27 Aug (Hina) - A plaque with the coat of arms and name of the Swiss city Schaffhausen was unveiled in the main square of northern Croatia's Varaždin on Saturday.

The unveiling was attended by Varaždin Mayor Neven Bosilj, Schaffhausen Mayor Peter Neukomm, and Croatia's consul general in Switzerland, Slobodan Mikac.

Before that, a meeting was held in the City Hall on the continuation of cooperation between the two friendly cities.

"We have been connected by partnership for four years already and are trying to upgrade it after the pandemic. We hope to develop more contacts," Neukomm said, adding that this was his third time in Varaždin.

He said Schaffhausen was honoured to have a plaque in Varaždin's main square and promised that he would do his best to make Varaždin more visible to his citizens.

Bosilj said the cooperation between the two cities intensified this year. He said they agreed to make Switzerland the partner country at next year's Varaždin Baroque Evenings festival, and that they also discussed possible cooperation between schools and in sports.

Also discussed was economic cooperation. Mikac said it was agreed to try and organise an economic forum of Swiss and Croatian SMEs.
