This programme is nothing new, however, items are often in short supply and the waiting list for them is long. The Hesed Centre can provide oxygen generators, wheelchairs, shower seats, crutches, rollers, baby cots, TENS devices, pressure gauges and the like.
The initiative was launched by the European Rabbi Centre and the European Jewish Association while the Zagreb project was organised by the Chabad Lubavitch Croatia Jewish organisation, headed by Rabbi Pinchas Zaklas, a press release says.
In time, the range of items will be expanded thanks to donations while anyone can hire the equipment, regardless of religious affiliation.
The Hebrew word Hesed means benevolence, kindness and that is the basic motivation to launch the programme, which emerged as emergency response in society during the pandemic, the press release says.
This is the 26th Hesed centre to be opened in Europe and the initiative has also been supported by the Israeli Ambassador to Croatia, Ilan Mor.
