The donation, worth HRK 72,000 (€9,600), has already been used to buy and install the most necessary equipment in the hospital's pediatric ward, including a resuscitation table, beds, a suction machine, cabinets and other equipment. Some of the equipment is still expected to arrive.
Ambassador Buyck said the embassy chose to present the donation to the hospital's pediatric ward because children are the most vulnerable members of society and need help the most.
The head of the Sisak hospital, Tomislav Dujmenović, said the pediatric ward had suffered extensive damage in the 29 December 2020 earthquake in Sisak-Moslavina County and had to be moved to the gynaecology ward. Thanks to donations, the ward is functioning in much better conditions than a few months ago, Dujmenović said, noting that the earthquake had damaged equipment as well, so the Belgian donation was all the more valuable.
The Sisak-based association "Naša djeca" participated in organising the donation.
Sisak-Moslavina County deputy head Mihael Jurić, too, underlined the importance of the Belgian donation.
