The exhibition of HGSS's most creative posts from the social network Twitter that warn people of dangers in ironic wording runs through 25 September in Zagreb's Urania Cinema.
"Since the usual, serious appeals sometimes cannot reach the 'most adventurous' nature lovers, our Information and Analytics Commission has found new ways to communicate with the domestic and foreign public, and Twitter has proved to be the most popular. Under the username @HrvatskaGSS , in a humorous, somewhat ironic, but informative way, we share valuable advice every day so that citizens can learn from other people's mistakes, and not from their own. Croats are people who like to joke at their own expense, so I believe that is why they have accepted the announcements with the latest incidents and accidents from our mountains, plains and waters so well, "said Josip Granic, head of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service, in his comment on the exhibition.
The HGSS provides information in three languages: Croatian, English and German to nature lovers on its web site www.hgss.hr.
The association, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, brings together over,1,000 highly motivated volunteers.
Since its foundation of the HGSS has saved several thousand people. The HGSS has between 800 and 1,000 response operations annually.
In its long history there have been over 10,000 rescue operations.
In 2017, HGSS received the "Communicator of the Year" award of the Croatian Public Relations Association for "using effective channels to convey important messages, and it does so professionally, convincingly, understandably, clearly and attractively."
